Walking Through the Valley: Optimism as a Practice
July 28, 2026
Optimism is not a mood. It is a practiced posture — one that the coaching method builds deliberately, day by day. When Phyllis Trafton first brought the Overcomers method to her early cohort, she opened with a single question: what would it look like to choose hope before the evidence arrives?
The valley the psalmist walks through is real. It is shadowed and long. The practice of optimism does not pretend the valley is a meadow — it chooses a direction and keeps walking. That is the first pillar of the method: not toxic positivity, but a disciplined forward orientation rooted in scriptural promise.
Each daily post in this series tracks one principle from the workbook. Today's study: carry the question "what am I moving toward?" into every hour. Write down one answer before tonight.
The coaching cadence pairs this question with the workbook's chapter one reflection. If you are reading along with a cohort, bring your answer to the next session. If you are reading alone, the comments are open.
